All About That Bass, bass, bass, bass, bass.......
Big thanks to PMJ for a great arrangement.
Bert, Paul, Becs and Rachel all hail from the beautiful Isle of Purbeck. We found Dave nearby and Bruce was imported all the way from Canada.
Our passion for all things musical brought us together and melded seamlessly into Retro Groove Mob (RGM), a swing jazz band. The retro feel and different slant to our songs goes with the retro look (we are a bunch of show-offs who like dressing up!).
Retro Groove Mob are your perfect party band. We are professional, fun-loving musicians who came together in January 2017 to create special musical moments and memories for our audiences. The live band sound adds that really special touch to any event.
RGM will bring our unique sound and energy to the special events taking place in your world. We will entertain and dazzle your friends and guests, with a fantastic repertoire of popular songs twisted with the RGM retro style. Weddings, parties, corporate celebrations or fundraising events, RGM will be the perfect dance band for any occasion.
Great musicians playing great music.
RGM’s inspiration comes not only from the Swing and Jazz genre but from great music in general. We love to be creative with modern songs by rearranging them to deliver that retro feel. We are inspired to deliver dazzling musical performances, which entertain and engage our audiences, creating memories that will remain for years to come.
"The Retro groove Mob created a fantastic atmosphere and delivered great entertainment for our New Years Eve party...dancing and singing all night long....best New Years Eve party in years."
George Pitcher, Owner, Bankes Arms Hotel, Corfe Castle
"Retro Grrove Mob are fantastic. Their great sense of fun and wonderful musicianship got the party started till way past my bedtime. Everybody wants to see them ( and more importantly hear them ) again."
Andy Bell, Organiser, Scolestock 2017 and 2018
"On a cold dark November evening, many members of the Corfe Castle Club turned out to see Retro Groove Mob, many for the first time . Everyone was delighted as RGM put on an exciting musical show and we are thrilled that RGM are returning to perform again this summer."
Chris Aylward, Club Events Organiser
"We loved having RGM share our special day. They were enjoyed by young and old ranging from 8 to 80!! They played a wonderful repertoire of their versions of well-loved songs, from Fly Me To The Moon to All About That Bass. We would do it all again in a flash."
Mags and Alan, September 2017
Rachel has been singing all her life. She is a diverse vocalist whose choral roots have evolved to join with gospel, blues, jazz and opera. She has had the joy of singing with acclaimed jazz vocalist Lianne Carol and is an absolute believer in the healing power of a funky groove.
Dave is the granddaddy of RGM who played London pubs in the swinging 60's before a musical career in military bands including The Coldstream Guards Band. Dave has played all over the world in groups as small as duos to full blown orchestras. Despite his experience Dave plays with a youthful vigour and energy as well as the sensitivity and guile of a seasoned pro in laying down the groove. His years in the industry and vast experience are key to the RGM feel
Becs is the performance director for RGM as well as the sax and harmony specialist. She has been a professional musician for over ten years and her musical education started early, being born into a musical family. This has led to an “old head on young shoulders” as far as her musical talent and experience is concerned. A powerhouse with huge energy Becs divides her time between teaching, choral leadership, composition/arrangement and live performance.
Bruce is a seasoned musician who has played all over the world. He moved to the UK from Canada in 2004 following his heart (and he is still married to her). A young talent , starting with his first live gig at age 3. He has played all different styles of music including acid rock(!) but is inspired by and touched most by playing the blues. Although he would be bashful in saying so, his Mob mates are all in awe of his incredible keyboard skills.
Bert has been playing music across a range of instruments and genres for most of his life. Between 2006-2009, he was one of the regular musicians at the legendary Shanley's Bar in Clonakilty, Co. Cork, giving him the opportunity to play with and learn from some Ireland's finest musicians.
RGM is the next stage in the journey.
Paul has been a lead vocalist for over 25 years, with Pop/Rock and Acoustic events bands in London, singing for audiences large and small, from music festivals to weddings and music pubs. Recently, gaining a popular music degree, despite being the oldest student in town, he loved the learning and is putting it to good use, engaging and entertaining RGM music lovers.
